After
our break, I hope everyone is refreshed and looking forward
to another interesting and challenging year ahead.
During the summer months, there has been a fair amount of activity
and preparation going on behind the scenes, to enable our club
and the organisation to get off to a flying start.
A flying start is not something that occurred on the planned
gliding social event which our treasurer Julie had organised
for the Sunday the 19th August. Bad weather meant that the date
was rescheduled for Saturday 15th September but, alas, strong
winds ruled out the possibility of any flying again. Not wishing
to waste an inclement day, Julie sorted out our library in a
very innovative and useful way. Not only do we now have a list
of books, but where possible, each book has been assigned to
an appropriate manual.

Our
vice-president Doug, has been busy in the publicity department,
with a publicity announcement on Thanet Local Radio (TLR), from
mid-August, leading up to and into National Speaking week, which
ran from 3rd to 9th September. This included a customary invitation
to visitors, with particular emphasis on the first three meetings.
Doug has gone 'live' in more ways than one! He is now on the internet.
Trevor has been very busy in his capacity as Kent Area President.
To coincide with the publicity for the designated National Speaking
Week, Trevor has been testing the feasibility of starting a new
club in the vicinity of Ashford.
Our education director Jim Telfer has been working on the programme
and is preparing to steer us through the year. There is lots more
news, but if you want to know more, you'll have to come to the
meeting!
